No matter what type of collector they are, primary, third-party, or government, the only reason they are contacting you is to collect the money. The most common practice they use is to intimidate you into making a commitment to send money. And the tactics they use are many. Some may threaten you with legal action or damage to your credit rating. My book will explain to you how to handle these calls.

Never get nasty with a bill collector. You always win this way. If they think they upset you they win, not you!

"Zombie" debts are those that are more than 10 years old, and past the statute of limitations for collections. You can refuse to pay such debts as being uncollectable.

Doctor's and hospital bills are the easiest one's to negotiate payments with. Usually hospitals have minimum payments that they try to impose on you, however they also realize that if you are not working, and can't meet their minimum, to get something is better than nothing. Always, always make sure whatever agreement you make with them get them to put it in writing.

Never ever tell a bill collector where you work. If they ever try to garnish your wages it is up to them to find out where you work. You are under no obligation to tell them.

The best Way to handle money calls is to not receive them in the first place! Use one of the three letters from "Chapter Two" of my book on this website to prevent them from calling you. The letters are at the end of chapter two. Scroll down to find them, then cut and paste them into your word processor, and send to the creditor that is bothering you.

"The process of credit repair has been shrouded in secrecy, with lawyers and consultants charging hundreds and even thousands of dollars to clean a credit report. Recently, a company even started a multi-level marketing company that sold credit cleaning services via personal networking. The fact is that anyone can clean-up their credit report using a few easy to follow steps, which we will cover here. For the purpose of this book, we will explain how to remove the following "derogs" from your credit profile: Creditor Inquiries Late pay remarks Collection Accounts (Accounts Referred To For Collection) Charge Offs (Accounts Written Off To Loss) Public Records (Bankruptcies, Tax Liens)"

When speaking with a creditor make sure to be persistant, and do not let them take control of the conversation. If you are getting nowhere with the person you are speaking with ask to speak with a supervisor.

The only thing worse than a money call is a collection letter. Using the US Postal inspector will stop them dead in their tracks.

Most creditors like to put a lot of pressure on people that owe them money. What most consumers don't understand is that with unsecured debt they are not the ones that calls the shots. There is nothing that an unsecured creditor can do to you, and worst case senario is a bankruptcy in your future. A few of the letters in my book usually take care of the constant phone calls. The IRS, a mortgage company, and a secured auto loan, are the only ones you need to be concerned with, and even then nogotiating with them is possible for lower payments, and interest rates. If you don't panic, and follow the step by step instructions in my book you will come out on top. It can be scary if you are over fifty and have creditors banging on your door, and even scarier if you are over sixty. Our entire society revolves around credit, and if you are over sixty the stress of bankruptcy can be worse than owing the money that first drove you to bankruptcy in the first place.

The fastest way to have creditors stop calling you is to use one of the letters in Chapter 2 of my book. This will stop them for at least 90 days, and will give you enough time to figure out what you will be able to do next.
